Overview: Oil Changes
An oil change is the shortest visit your car makes, which is why it is the easiest one to do badly. Drain the old oil, swap the filter, refill with the right grade, check the level, reset the reminder. A dedicated quick-lube bay does it while you sit in the car. A repair shop books it in and puts the vehicle on a lift. The menu on the wall is where it gets interesting. Conventional, synthetic blend and full synthetic are not the same product, and the cheapest line on that board may not meet the specification your engine was built for. That specification lives in the owner's manual. The filter matters too, and so does the drain plug: a stripped oil pan costs many times what the service did. Expect a list on the way out. Air filter, cabin filter, wipers, a flush of something. Some of it is genuinely due and some of it is margin, so ask to see the dirty part before you agree. Use the state and city lists below to find the shops doing this work. Most sit on busy commercial streets and take walk-ins, so for once the closest one is a reasonable choice.
